I was delighted last week to receive a call from a journalist asking me what Five Star Fitness does about fall prevention for older adults. It’s such a vital part of independent living and really great to see that word is spreading about our specialisation in dealing with mobility and strength issues in an ageing population. It has however, become very noticeable to me over the past few years that the age for people with mobility and strength difficulties has been coming down, with many in their 30’s and 40’s experiencing stiff joints and a lack of strength which makes every movement a struggle. Our generally sedentary lifestyle, sitting in transport to work, sitting at a desk all day, sitting in transport going home then sitting watching television added to the large percentage of people who are overweight means that it won’t be too long before everyone is talking about fall prevention in adults without the word “older” being inserted!
If you feel that this may be happening to you, please allow me to suggest that you “stand up and move” before it becomes a major problem.

It was written by Sami Russell and published today on the “Living it Up” website, a great health and wellbeing resource that’s supported by NHS24 and the Scottish Government and well worth browsing through for lots of additional information.
